The Zachary D. Peterson Automotive Trade Scholarship has been established in memory of Zach Peterson, a dedicated Garfield High School graduate who enjoyed restoring vintage cars.
This scholarship is dedicated to supporting the next generation of automotive professionals from the James A. Garfield and Windham school districts. By providing financial assistance for continued training in automotive service, body shop, or service writer career fields, we honor Zach's legacy.
Graduating seniors from Windham Exempted Village Schools or the JAG Local School District, who demonstrate a strong ambition to advance their careers in automotive technology, are encouraged to apply. This scholarship aims to alleviate the financial burdens associated with vocational training and to foster the skills and passion necessary for success in the automotive trade.
In addition to supporting high school graduates, the fund will also aid incoming juniors from these schools who are entering the automotive program at Maplewood Career Center.

Zachary Peterson was born on June 4, 1999, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Daniel and Jama McMillan Peterson. A proud 2017 graduate of James A. Garfield High School, Zach carried a deep sense of community and family throughout his life.
Zach worked alongside his dad and uncle at the family business, GeeVille Auto Parts, where he was known not just for his strong work ethic but also for the camaraderie he shared with his family and customers alike.
He had a close bond with his older sister, Krista (Ron) Hardway, and he cherished his role as an uncle to his nephew, Orion. Zach's heart was always fullest when he was surrounded by his loved ones — spending time with family, hanging out with friends, and making memories with his cousins McKenzie, Austin and McKayla were among his favorite things to do.
One of the last special moments Zach shared with his dad was the purchase of a 1941 Chevy two-door sedan — a project that was especially meaningful to Zach, as he looked forward to designing and customizing the car himself.
Zach passed away unexpectedly on July 16, 2023, after a short illness, with his loving family by his side. His warm spirit, love for those around him, and passion for life will always be remembered.
